A cell-permeable mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide that selectively binds cardiolipin and reduces mitochondrial reactive-oxygen-species generation.
SS-31 (elamipretide) is a cell-permeable synthetic tetrapeptide that concentrates 1000-fold inside the inner mitochondrial membrane via cardiolipin binding. The peptide stabilizes cardiolipin in the cristae, supporting electron-transport-chain assembly and reducing reactive-oxygen-species leak.
Each vial is lyophilized from acetate buffer, sealed under nitrogen, and shipped cold-chain at −20 °C from our Kelowna facility.
Mitochondrial cardiolipin-binding assays, ETC supercomplex assembly investigations, ischemia-reperfusion in-vitro models, and bioenergetic profiling of aged or stressed cell lines.

Allow vial to reach room temperature before opening (≥ 20 minutes). Reconstitute with 1.0–2.5 mL of sterile bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol). Inject solvent slowly down the inner wall of the vial; do not direct stream onto the lyophilized cake.
Swirl gently for 30 seconds. Do not vortex. Allow to dissolve for 5 minutes; clarity should be complete with no visible particulates.
Reconstituted solution is stable for 28 days at 2–8 °C in original vial. For longer storage, aliquot into low-binding tubes and hold at −80 °C; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Discard if turbidity, color change, or particulate matter is observed.

Ss 31 is a mitochondrial-targeted peptide, classified within the cardiolipin protection pathway. Structurally it is a tetrapeptide D-Arg-2',6'-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH₂. SS-31 (elamipretide) is a mitochondrially-targeted tetrapeptide that binds cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Szeto and Birk (2014) characterized its protective effect on mitochondrial structure and function.
In an in-vitro setting, Ss 31 interacts with its target receptor(s) at low-nanomolar affinities under standard binding-assay conditions. Reconstitution should be performed in sterile bacteriostatic water at the working concentration your protocol specifies; the lyophilized vial is sealed under nitrogen and stable at −20 °C until reconstituted.
Ss 31 arrives lyophilized at −20 °C in cold-chain insulated packaging. On receipt, transfer immediately to a −20 °C freezer. Once reconstituted, store at 2-8 °C and use within the window noted on the lot's COA. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
For laboratory research only. Ss 31 is sold strictly as an in-vitro reference standard. It is not approved for human or veterinary use by Health Canada or the FDA.
