Epithalon: tetrapeptide for telomerase and longevity research
Published 2024-08-13 · Lumera Labs Editorial · Kelowna, BC
Short answer. Epithalon is the synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG), one of the most-studied short-peptide bioregulators in published telomerase-activity and longevity research. Available from $30 CAD.
Sequence
L-Ala-L-Glu-L-Asp-L-Gly. Mass 390.35 Da. Synthesized by standard SPPS with Fmoc protection; final cleavage in TFA. Counter-ion content depends on cleavage cocktail and post-cleavage workup; reference-grade lots should report residual TFA < 1.0%.
Why telomerase research?
The Khavinson group's published in-vitro results show measurable changes in telomerase activity in human cell-line models exposed to AEDG. The mechanism is not settled — direct binding to telomerase has not been demonstrated, and indirect effects via gene-regulatory networks remain hypothesis-stage. Researchers should treat published mechanism claims as hypothesis to test, not as established model.
Quality criteria
- RP-HPLC purity ≥ 99% at 220 nm.
- ESI-MS at 390.35 Da ± 0.3 Da.
- Net peptide content ≥ 90% by AAA (short peptides rarely fall below this).
- Chiral HPLC verification of all-L stereochemistry.
Reconstitution
AEDG is highly water-soluble. 10 mg vial in 1.0 mL bacteriostatic water gives 10 mg/mL stock. Dissolves immediately. Stable 30 days at 2–8 °C; long-term storage as −80 °C single-thaw aliquots.
Comparison-pair research
For class context see Pinealon (EDR, tripeptide) and the broader bioregulator-series literature. Cross-comparison is most useful when both peptides come from the same release batch with paired Janoshik COAs — Lumera publishes lot-specific COAs at /lab-results/ for every release.

Frequently asked questions
What is Epithalon's sequence?
Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG), all-L. Mass 390.35 Da.
Does Epithalon directly bind telomerase?
Direct binding has not been demonstrated in published research as of writing. The mechanism remains hypothesis-stage — gene-regulatory effects are the dominant proposed mode.
How small is Epithalon vs typical research peptides?
Very small — only 4 residues, ~390 Da. For reference, BPC-157 is 15 residues and ~1419 Da, Tirzepatide is 39 residues and ~4813 Da.
Are short peptides harder to verify?
Yes, short peptides have less unique HPLC retention and mass signatures. Both HPLC purity and ESI-MS confirmation are essential on a reference-grade COA.
Where to source Epithalon in Canada?
